Low Pressure System Mixed with Remnants of Melissa to Make for Wet Halloween

Hurricane Melissa’s track as of 3:30 NDT (Canadian Hurricane Centre)
It will be a wet Halloween for trick-or-treaters this evening as a low pressure system and the remnants of Hurricane Melissa pass over the island.
Meteorologist Chris Fogarty of the Canadian Hurricane Centre in Halifax says they’re watching Melissa’s track closely, and while the St. John’s area and the eastern Avalon are not expected to see much in the way of high winds, heavy rain is possible.
He says the entire island is also expected to experience rain and wind from a separate low pressure system which is also passing over the region. However, Melissa could bring a brief period of heavy rain late this evening.
Graham MacDonald of the Gander Weather Office says it may be a good idea to get out trick-or-treating a little bit earlier this evening as most areas of the island are in for about 20 – 30 mm of rain.
He says those on the southwest coast should try to get out before 6 p.m. to avoid the rain and wind. For the rest of the island, it’ll be best to wrap up your door knocking by 8 or 9 if you’re hoping to stay dry.
