Disappointing News About The ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Release Date On Disney+

Disney is slowly lurching forward with more Star Wars content, its first movie in years being the TV spin-off, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Besides that show, however, almost the entirety of Disney+ Star Wars shows have been one-offs, either on purpose or through cancellation. Those include The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew. The exceptions are Andor, which is now over after two seasons, and Ahoska, the only live-action series that has an upcoming new season, which is pretty wild.

Now, we have some news on the Ahsoka front, and it’s not amazing. The show has only just now finished filming its second season. Seemingly good news, but when you look at how long it still has to go, and what the gap between seasons is going to be, it’s a bit ridiculous.

  • Ahsoka season 1 wrapped filming in October 2022 and aired in August 2023, 10 months later.
  • So, if Ahsoka season 2 wrapped today, it will likely air somewhere around August/September 2026.

August 2023 to August 2026 is a pretty easy calculation, three years exactly. That’s absolutely on the high-end of streaming series delays, where most land between 1.5 and 2 years, up from one year, the way things used to be. This is even longer than the much-derided gap between seasons of Wednesday on Netflix. Just absurd.

The original season had eight episodes ranging from 37 to 57 minutes in length, so we’re not talking about some 15-episode The Pitt season here. Though with the special effects for these Disney shows, it is practically like making the equivalent of a movie or two.

The show reviewed positively, the third highest-scored Star Wars series with an 85%. Fans were less kind with a 64%. The show almost requires at least some level of attachment to Dave Filoni’s Clone Wars series, which starred Ahsoka for a decade, and his subsequent Rebels series, where practically all of its characters are a part of this show. Big player Thrawn is also in the mix, along with new one like Shin Hati and Baylan Skoll. Unfortunately Skoll’s actor, Ray Stevenson, passed away before filming, and has been replaced by Game of Thrones’ Rory McCann for season 2.

We’re just in a weird spot with Disney Star Wars right now. It did just air another season of its animated anthology Star Wars: Visions, which has been better received than almost any live-action show short of Andor. But for live-action shows? Now that Andor is done, it’s beyond strange to have Ahsoka being the only one still running. Disney has claimed that more shows are coming, but we have heard practically nothing about any of them. So you in nearly a year for Ahsoka, I guess.
