Keanu Reeves’ New Sci-Fi Action Thriller Is Perfect for ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Fans

Keanu Reeves is set to return to the John Wick franchise in a fifth installment, but he is also adding another exciting action project to his schedule. While Edge of Tomorrow fans will have to continue to wait indefinitely for a sequel, Reeves is tackling a similar premise with an acclaimed superhero movie director at the helm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is set to star in Shiver, a sci-fi action thriller from Deadpool director Tim Miller. The script, written by Ian Shorr (Infinite), has been compared to Edge of Tomorrow meets The Shallows. Reeves is playing a smuggler stuck in a time loop after he gets double-crossed while on a job in the Caribbean. Combined with the sci-fi premise and tropical location, Shiver appears to be a truly unique take on the genre. Warner Bros. is nearing a deal to acquire the high-profile project. Read the plot description, as provided by THR:

“Plot details are very hazy, but the word on the street is that the story centers on a ne’er-do-well smuggler who finds himself in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in him surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries and thirsty sharks alike. He next finds himself a deathly time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.”

Reeves and Miller join forces on Shiver after collaborating on Secret Level, the Prime Video animated anthology series that adapts famous video game properties. The show was created by Miler and featured Reeves in an episode based on the Armored Core franchise. His critically acclaimed performance is one of the highlights of what some consider to be a mixed bag of a series. On Shiver, they will be joined by producers Matthew Vaughn, the filmmaker behind the Kingsman franchise, and Aaron Ryder, whose long list of credits includes Dumb Money and Pieces of a Woman.

James Gunn Addresses Keanu Reeves’ Long-Awaited Return as Constantine

Warner Bros.

One of the most anticipated projects on the radar for Keanu Reeves is Constantine 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 DC film. Francis Lawrence, who went on to helm the Hunger Games franchise, is back at the helm for the supernatural follow-up. However, updates have been scarce since the project was announced in 2022 from Warner Bros. In a recent interview, DC Studios co-president James Gunn addressed the current state of the Constantine sequel, which he says he has not read the script for yet.

“I’ve discussed it on and off. I discussed it with Keanu [Reeves[, So, it’s…I think that’s a great group of guys. I like all those people a lot. I think they’re talented, but I have not read any script yet.”

It was previously reported that several drafts of the script have come into play, but none have made it far until recently. Reeves confirmed in early October that “another draft of the script came in. We’re gonna take it to the studio and hopefully they like it too.” It is assumed that the studio in question is DC Studios, as Gunn and fellow head Peter Safran are in charge of all DC projects. Constantine 2 will likely be an Elseworlds title, like Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II, but it is still up to Gunn and Safran to greenlight it. No matter the case, Reeves has his hands full in the coming years with John Wick 5, a film based on his BRZRKR comic, and Shiver, a sci-fi thriller from director Tim Miller.
