Kantara Chapter 1 has beaten the Vicky Kaushal-led Chhaava fair and square not only in terms of gross collections, but also with recorded footfalls. Rishab Shetty’s Kantara prequel is said to have registered a little over 3 crore footfalls in 4 weeks at the box office, which betters the 2.75 cr set by Chhaava. Kantara Chapter 1’s 3 crore includes 1 cr from the Hindi belt, with the Kannada original recording around 80 lakh viewers, which, more or less equals the footfalls of 2022’s Kantara in Kannada. It has, however, marginally bettered the figures recorded by both KGF: Chapter 1 and 2 in the same time frame. Overall, though, KGF: Chapter 2 fared a lot better with over 5 cr footfalls during its theatrical run, much of which came from the Hindi belt.

As far as collections go, as of Day 27, Kantara Chapter 1 had made it to Rs 711 cr all-India gross and worldwide at Rs 821 cr, making it the highest grossing film of 2025. Trade insiders, however, wonder if there will be an impact on this figure once the court decides in the matter of the Karnataka government’s cap on ticket prices, which the makers of Kantara Chapter 1 had opposed. The Rs 200 plus taxes cap has been stayed with the court ordering exhibitors to maintain strict records of ticket sales to facilitate refunds to audiences if the government order prevails.
Rishab Shetty’s prequel did not stray far from the plot of the 2022 original, sticking yet again to a man vs nature conflict. This time, it’s a king who is eyeing the bounties of Kantara. Rishab is joined by the likes of Jayaram, Hariprashanth, Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, Rakesh Poojary, Naveen D Padil, Pramod Shetty, Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Panaje and Mime Ramadas, among others, on the cast. Ajaneesh Lokanath returned for music and Arvind Kashyap for the visuals.
