Derby Day LIVE updates: ‘I’d do anything to get half my body back’: Ahead of the Derby, Prebble opens up on life-changing fall

Jockey Tom Prebble has spoken for the first time since a racing fall left him paralysed from the chest down in September.

Tom was left with no sensation below the T4 level of his spine following a race fall in Warrnambool on September 9.
The Prebbles spoke with Nine’s Eddie McGuire during the Derby Day coverage.
“Unfortunately, I’ve got no sensation, and it’s been two months now and they’ve basically kind of declared me as, yeah, completely [paralysed],” Tom Prebble told Nine.
“I’m not dirty on racing, I still want to be a part of it
“At the moment, I’m not home yet. I’m taking things day by day and not thinking about it.

“I kind of still have a little hope in me, but it is dwindling away, day by day, to be honest.”
Tom is continuing his recovery at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre in Kew, where he will remain until the end of the month when he plans to move into his mother’s house, which has been modified for his needs.
He said he would do anything and go anywhere if there was a way he could regain more of his movement and some independence in his life.
“If there’s any rehab that could sort of get me get a bit more sensation, I’d love to do it,” Tom told Nine.
“I’ll fly anywhere, [and] do anything, just to get half my body back, to be honest.
“But yeah, just hopefully getting that.”
They launched a GoFundMe page for Prebble to raise money for his recovery journey, and McGuire reported they have already raised $100,000 after a range of sponsors made significant donations.
