Keanu Reeves To Lead ‘Deadpool’ Director’s Sci-Fi ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Replacement

After appearing in Tim Miller‘s video game anthology series Secret Level, Keanu Reeves is about to take on a much bigger project with the Deadpool director. Warner Bros. is closing in on a deal to acquire Shiver, a unique new sci-fi film helmed by Miller and starring Reeves. It’s said to have tinges of Tom Cruise‘s time loop action thriller Edge of Tomorrow and Blake Lively‘s shark survival flick, The Shallows, and will also be produced by Kingsman mastermind Matthew Vaughn.
Plot details are mostly shrouded in mystery, though reports allege that it will follow “a ne’er-do-well smuggler” on a dangerous job in the Caribbean Sea, where he finds himself caught in a deadly double-cross. Out on the water, he’s stuck between hungry sharks and hostile mercenaries alike, neither of which is willing to let him out alive. As if that weren’t bad enough, a deathly time loop ensures that even his demise can’t save him from the disastrous situation. His only hope is to find a way to break the cycle before it’s too late.
Ian Shorr, known for co-writing Antoine Fuqua‘s 2021 sci-fi action thriller Infinite, penned the script to Shiver. This will notably be Miller’s first film behind the camera since Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019, his attempt to revive the killer cyborg series for the big screen. He was also recruited to help with reshoots on the much-maligned Borderlands movie. More recently, he’s been glued to his two animated series — the aforementioned Secret Level, which was swiftly renewed for a second season in December, and his Netflix darling Love, Death & Robots, which debuted its fourth season back in May.
Keanu Reeves Has Another Much-Anticipated Project Finally Gaining Steam
2025 has been relatively busy for Reeves, who’s coming in hot off playing a budget guardian angel in Aziz Ansari‘s Good Fortune and recently reprised his role as John Wick in the spin-off film, Ballerina. A reunion with Miller adds another exciting project on the horizon for the beloved actor, but it’s not the only big development he’s been involved in of late. Back in March, the long-gestating adaptation of Reeves’s comic series BRZRKR finally took a critical step forward by tapping Justin Lin to direct the film. Better yet, the Fast and Furious franchise mainstay had high praise for the script by Mattson Tomlin, calling it one of his favorite projects he’s worked on. There’s still a lengthy road ahead before the action-packed story can finally reach the screen, though.
Stay tuned here at Collider for more on Shiver as it comes together.
