Former Brighton & Hove Albion technical director David Weir has been appointed as Chelsea sister club Strasbourg’s new sporting director.
The Athletic reported on September 12 that Brighton had parted company with the 55-year-old after seven years with the club in various roles.
He has now landed a new role with Strasbourg, which is wholly owned by Chelsea ownership group BlueCo.

“It is a great honor to join Racing,” Weir said. “A historic club with a strong identity and growing ambition. I was convinced by the project and the quality of the people already in place.
“I am eager to settle in Strasbourg and become fully involved in the life of Racing. I look forward to working with Liam (Rosenior) and all the teams to contribute to Racing’s success this season and in the years to come.”
Weir is a former Scotland international who made more than 600 appearances as a player in club football. He joined Brighton as loans manager in 2018. He was promoted to assistant technical director for a spell before Dan Ashworth’s exit to Newcastle United.
Weir was Brighton’s technical director from May 2022 to September of this year. He is the latest person formerly affiliated with Brighton to either be signed or appointed by BlueCo.
The consortium appointed former Brighton head coach Graham Potter as Chelsea head coach in September 2022, and have also signed Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez, Joao Pedro, and Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton for Chelsea in recent seasons.
BlueCo have also signed left-back Valentin Barco and midfielder Julio Enciso for Strasbourg from Brighton and the French club’s manager Rosenior spent just under a year as Brighton’s assistant manager in between 2018 and 2019.
Chelsea’s co-sporting director Paul Winstanley was also head of scouting at Brighton before moving to Stamford Bridge. Strasbourg are fourth in Ligue 1, two points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
