French club Strasbourg are owned by Todd Boehly‘s BlueCo, who also own Chelsea.

Weir, an ex-Scotland and Everton Premier League star, had worked as the technical director at Brighton since May 2022 before his shock departure from the Seagulls was announced in September.

A statement from the south coast side’s chairman Tony Bloom said: “David has served our club very well but we now wish to refresh our technical area with new leadership and direction.

“I’d like to thank David for everything he has done for us, and to wish him well for the future.”

Now, less than two months after the announcement, David has now completed a move to work under BlueCo.

His arrival means he is now the SIXTEENTH player or staff member to move from Brighton to work under the Chelsea owners since their takeover of the Stamford Bridge outfit in 2022.

Taking to social media, fans were left in disbelief at yet another person being poached from Brighton by BlueCo.

One angry fan said: “Are you guys not embarrassed? You literally wait for someone to leave or be good at Brighton & just hire them.

“It’s not even funny it’s at the point it’s really sad that clubs of your size and money just want to copy little old Brighton.”

A second said: “Do you not feel the slightest amount of shame?”

A third added: “This is getting funnier and funnier, we have officially become a feeder club to Chelsea and Chelsbourg.”

Another said: “Utterly embarrassing. Boehly and BlueCo continue to be OBSESSED with Brighton! Strasbourg fans, what are they doing to your club? I’m sorry for you.”

BlueCo’s most recent acquisition from Brighton before Weir was the transfer of Julio Enciso, with the Paraguayan initially moving to the Ligue 1 side before an expected switch to Chelsea in the future.

Marc Cucurella was the first person to make a switch to Chelsea from Brighton back in 2022, with manager Graham Potter and five of his staff members joining months later.

The likes of Robert Sanchez and Moises Caicedo – for a then British transfer record-breaking fee of £115million – later went on to join Chelsea as well.

Strasbourg fans have protested against the ownership their club by BlueCo, criticising their use as a so-called “farm club” to Chelsea.

In September it was announced the club’s four main fan groups – Ultra Boys 90, Kop Ciel & Blanc, la Fédération des supporters du Racing and Pariser Section – would be going on an indefinite strike against the ownership group.

This would consist of the fans remaining silent at games, starting with what would usually be a blockbuster clash with Marseille.

A statement from fans said: “We favour appeasement and will comply with the measures imposed for the Marseille home game, while contesting their unfair and injurious nature.

“Under these circumstances, there will be no vocal demonstrations.”

On the other hand, Marc Keller, who is the president of Strasbourg, is adamant BlueCo investment has helped the club move forwards.

He told the Telegraph: “Our dream was to take Strasbourg into Europe.

“For that you need a bigger stadium. Bigger revenue. You need a strong ownership ready to take risks … with BlueCo we can compete for the top league positions and for Europe.”
