The Hardys’ WWE Status Following NXT Halloween Havoc Loss

Matt Hardy isn’t closing the door on WWE—not by a long shot. In fact, the legendary tag team star opened up about what could come next for him and Jeff Hardy following their recent run in NXT, and it sounds like the door to Raw, SmackDown, and more NXT appearances is wide open.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the Broken One laid out his ideal vision for the future, and it includes continuing the Hardy Boyz’ momentum while staying flexible with both WWE and TNA. Matt explained that he sees their best role now as “novelty acts” rather than full-time talents.
After weeks of speculation about their contract status and next steps, Matt dropped this:
“I think in a perfect world to optimize stuff, I would like to see myself and Jeff spend a little more time with TNA and I would like to see this partnership grow a little bit because I think WWE looks at us as legacy acts. We were WWE born and bred, and uh you know maybe—maybe we do stick our heads back in NXT, do another little run there. Maybe we stick our heads into a Raw, do a small run there. We stick our heads into SmackDown, do a small run there.”
He made it very clear that any return to WWE would be short and impactful—by design.
“I definitely think there is a lot of interesting, exciting stuff that can be done, especially if we are used as novelty acts. I think that’s where Jeff and I are at our best, if doing something for WWE. If we come in like a novelty act and uh, you know, it’s not like we’re gonna be there and we’re booking all the way from, you know, WrestleMania 44 to 45, brother—you know, we’re gonna do a solid year on TV, whatever. You know, I think when we come in and we have a short, explosive little run, I think that’s where we are used in our most optimal way.”
And while nothing is officially set in stone, he added that the future is never predictable when it comes to professional wrestling:
“It’s pro wrestling—and never say never. Anything could happen in pro wrestling, you know, in 2026. Anything could happen, and uh, and we’ll see.”
Matt’s tone made it clear that the Hardys are still very much in the game, and WWE hasn’t seen the last of them. With both WWE and TNA benefitting from their recent crossover, it seems fans should expect to see more of the Hardys bouncing between promotions—on their terms.
Whether it’s another run in NXT or quick stints on Raw or SmackDown, Matt and Jeff Hardy look like they’re gearing up for one final wave of nostalgia-filled chaos before calling it a career.
Let us know what you think—do you want to see the Hardy Boyz return to WWE again? What brand should they land on next? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
