Jon Bon Jovi Says Irish Rock Legends Thin Lizzy Are The Reason He Writes Songs

Jon Bon Jovi has credited Irish rock band Thin Lizzy for inspiring his songwriting career, calling them a major influence behind his creative driving force.

In recent comments, the veteran singer revealed that listening to Thin Lizzy’s twin guitar harmonies and poetic lyrics “changed everything” for him.

The frontman said that songs like “The Boys Are Back in Town” made him rethink what it meant to write meaningful rock anthems, rather than simply chasing hits or trends. He added: “My heroes were always Thin Lizzy… that was the first song I learnt how to play properly on guitar.”

Bon Jovi said he believes the best songs are those that tell the songwriter’s truth—because once you write something real, “people find that’s their story too.” His acknowledgement of Thin Lizzy underscores how their legacy continues to ripple through rock history and influence artists generations later.
