COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Giant Eagle will host a unique “Penny Exchange Day” on November 1, giving customers double the value of their spare change.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., shoppers can bring pennies to any Giant Eagle or Market District supermarket and exchange them for a Giant Eagle gift card worth twice the amount.
For example, exchanging $1 in pennies earns a $2 gift card.
Transactions must total at least 50 cents in pennies and cannot exceed $100.
The promotion aims to help maintain an adequate penny supply as the U.S. Treasury phases out penny production and the Federal Reserve restricts new coin deliveries.
Giant Eagle President and CEO Bill Artman called the effort a fun way to reward customers while supporting those who prefer cash payments.
The company said the program will help ensure it can continue to provide exact change until further government guidance is issued.
