Is JaCobian Morgan playing today for Jackson State football vs FAMU? Latest update on QB’s injury

Jackson State football quarterback JaCobian Morgan might not play in the Tigers’ Week 10 game against Florida A&M.

Morgan suffered an injury in JSU’s loss to Grambling State in the P&G Las Vegas HBCU Classic on Oct. 25. He left the game in the first quarter and was later seen using crutches and wearing a boot on his left foot. In his weekly news conference on Oct. 27, coach T.C. Taylor said Morgan was scheduled to see a doctor later that day and spoke of needing to prepare JSU’s backup options to play against FAMU.

If Morgan does not play, the Tigers will turn to either redshirt freshman Parker Stofa or true freshman Jared Lockhart. Both saw time in JSU’s game against Grambling State.

The Tigers (5-2, 3-1 SWAC) play FAMU (3-4, 2-1) at Bragg Memorial Stadium on Nov. 1 (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+).

Morgan has not missed a game due to injury this season. Taylor elected to rest Morgan, along with a number of other starters, against Tuskegee on Sept. 13. He has completed 61.2% of his passes for 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns, the third-most in the SWAC. He also has two interceptions. On the ground, Morgan has picked up 265 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries.

Stofa initially replaced Morgan when he got hurt in Las Vegas. It was his fifth appearance of the season and sixth of his career. In his time at JSU, Stofa is 7-for-15 for 86 yards and one interception. He also has rushed for 29 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

Lockhart replaced Stofa in the third quarter against Grambling State. He led JSU down the field for two touchdowns in the fourth. His appearance in Las Vegas was his second this season, and he already has one start under his belt, against Tuskegee. He is 19-for-30 for 357 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also has 19 carries for 88 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Whoever does start will take on a FAMU defense giving up 34.4 points a game (fourth-worst in the SWAC) and an average of 211.1 passing yards per game. A loss for JSU could drop the Tigers from first in the SWAC East to fourth.
