WKU Football hosts NMSU for homecoming

WKU Football looks to ride the momentum of a 28-27 overtime win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs as it returns home for homecoming against New Mexico State at Houchens-Smith Stadium on Nov. 1.
Redshirt freshman Rodney Tisdale Jr. is set to start for the second straight week. Tisdale Jr. started for the injured Maverick McIvor against the Bulldogs, throwing for 227 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
“I thought (Rodney) brought a spark,” Head Coach Tyson Helton said. “I thought he handled the offense pretty well. He’s still young and learning, and he had a few lessons there in the game.”
The Hilltopper passing defense struggled against LA Tech, giving up 340 yards through the air to sophomore quarterback Blake Baker.
The Aggies are coming off a difficult overtime loss to the Missouri State Bears at home. Junior wide receiver Donovan Faupel caught 10 targets for 84 yards and a touchdown.
Senior quarterback Logan Fife struggled against the Bears, throwing for 207 yards and a touchdown, along with four interceptions.
The Hilltoppers sit at third in Conference USA with a 4-1 record in conference play, trailing only Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State, which lead the conference with 4-0 records.
“We are still in this conference hunt, so there’s a lot to play for,” Helton said. “I’m just excited to be back home more than anything and get an opportunity to play in front of our home crowd.”
The Hilltoppers defeated the Aggies 41-28 last season at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The year before, the Aggies knocked off the Hilltoppers 38-29 on homecoming.
Kickoff for this year’s Homecoming game is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
