Central Michigan picked up its second straight win last week, never trailing on the way to downing visiting UMass 38-13. The Chippewas opened up the game early with three first-quarter touchdowns and cruised from there. Joe Labas was 10-of-11 for 148 yards and two scores while Nahree Biggins gained 94 yards on 10 carries as CMU ran for 279 yards. Brock Townsend ran for a pair of touchdowns and caught a TD pass in the win.
Western Michigan surrendered 17 fourth-quarter points to lose its showdown of 3-0 MAC teams at Miami (Ohio) last week 26-17. The Broncos lost a fumble that led to a field goal during the onslaught and turned the ball over on downs with 51 seconds left. Broc Lowry threw for 172 yards and a touchdown while also picking up 82 yards to lead the ground game, while Tailique Williams caught five passes for 71 yards and a score.
The Victory Cannon went back to Central Michigan last season with its 16-14 win at home on Nov. 19, ending a two-year run for Western Michigan, which leads the all-time series 42-39-1.
