Arne Slot: I have full backing of Liverpool board

Slot said he demonstrated in the 2-0 win away to Manchester City in February that he is prepared to go against his beliefs when it is necessary and that he is “more than open to adapt in certain situations”.
But he does not believe Liverpool’s current struggles require major surgery to his set-up. “I don’t think the story, at least in my opinion, is that we concede chance after chance after chance and that we are too open or that it’s absolutely like this every single game,” he said.
“Maybe apart from Palace [in September] because in the first half we could have been two or three down and maybe the Brentford game.
“But I think all the other games we deserved much more than we got. I don’t see us conceding a lot of chances, so I don’t see a reason to change our playing style completely but we need to do better in not conceding goals that’s for sure.”
Despite spending almost £450m on new signings in the summer, Slot questioned the depth in Liverpool’s squad compared to rivals such as City and Chelsea after a weakened side lost to Palace on Wednesday. But the Dutchman backtracked on those comments on Friday.
“We miss nothing,” he said. “I am happy that you asked this question. I am completely happy with the team, all the quality that we have and completely convinced with the strategy and the policy we have, but the issue, if you could talk about an issue, is not all of them have had a proper pre-season or have been injured during the season.”
Ryan Gravenberch returned to training on Thursday and could be involved against Villa, but Slot does not expect to have Alexander Isak or Curtis Jones available. Goalkeeper Alisson and right back Jeremie Frimpong are also injured.
