Ian Rush once explained why he ‘didn’t like’ Kenny Dalglish when first met him at Liverpool

Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish went on to form one of the greatest partnerships in Liverpool history.
The Reds have always been synonymous with attacking football, with it being safe to say they have had their fair share of elite forwards in their time.

Ian Rush didn’t like Kenny Dalglish’s personality
Settling into a new club can be difficult for anyone, especially for a young player coming to a club the size of Liverpool.
But that is what Rush had to do, with the Welshman having the pressure of playing alongside someone as good as Dalglish.
When he first joined, though, he once admitted that he was not sure if he would get on with his future partner, saying that he was never sure whether he was joking or not.
“I didn’t like Kenny when I first met him as he was just taking the mickey all the time and all that,” Rush said in 2015 on the Football’s Greatest documentary.
“As a kid I was always thinking ‘well, does he mean it or not?’

“But what he was doing was trying to get you into the Liverpool way where we have a laugh and a joke. When you get to know him, you know there’s no malice at all in him.”
Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush’s record together
During their time, they were Europe’s most feared partnership and looking back on what they achieved together, it is clear why.
They played 241 games together, combining to score 50 goals, with Dalglish often the playmaker while Rush was the goalscorer.
Dalglish assisted the Welshman 39 times and they went on to win the League and the European Cup together, among many more.
They truly will go down as two of the greatest players to ever play for the club, with anyone who plays in attack for the Reds having a lot to live up to.
