Liam Hemsworth dons Henry Cavill’s wig for superbly silly return of The Witcher

Netflix’s hit fantasy series, The Witcher, suffered a worrying case of man bun overboard when lead actor Henry Cavill quit out of the blue in October 2022 – taking with him the distinctive silver topknot he sported playing ace monster killer Geralt of Rivia. But Geralt has lived to slay another day. As The Witcher returns for its stonkingly okay-ish fourth season, his mantle (and wig) has been taken up by Liam Hemsworth.
Depending on age and time spent on social media, you will either know Hemsworth from The Hunger Games movies or as the ex-husband of Miley Cyrus and younger brother of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth – Stephen Baldwin to Chris’s Alec, to give you context. In replacing Cavill, he’s pulling the sword and sorcery equivalent of a James Bond by taking over from an actor who made the part gorily his own. But instead of imitating his predecessor, he has put his own gruff spin on a character never exactly a bag of laughs to begin with. Behold Geralt, the Daniel Craig years.
