Boyzlife to celebrate friendship and music at Gary Player’ s weekend birthday bash

International pop duo Boyzlife are thrilled to perform in South Africa this weekend, a country where they have created lifelong memories.

Formed in 2016 and composed of former Westlife member Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy, formerly of Boyzone, Boyzlife will take to the stage at South African golf legend Gary Player’s 90th birthday party at Sun City in the North West on Saturday, November 1.

“We are here to celebrate him and to help the foundation as well, which is really close to our hearts,” Duffy told “Independent Media Lifestyle.”

McFadden added: “The most important thing for us with the Gary and Vivienne Player Foundation is the fact that it supports children.”

“I have a young daughter and three children in total, and Keith has kids as well. Our kids are very important to us, and we try to do whatever we can for them.”

McFadden explained that he met the sports legend around two decades ago.

“I met Gary 20-odd years ago when he invited me to South Africa to play in his golf tournament, and we have been good friends ever since. Pretty much every year, I come down to South Africa.”

And for McFadden, South Africa brings special memories.

“In the early days of Westlife, we shot our video for ‘When You’re Looking Like That’ in South Africa. We did three concerts here, we shot a video, and I have always got good memories of that.”

Meanwhile, while both McFadden and Duffy have performed in Mzansi as part of their former boy bands, they are excited to perform for the first time as Boyzlife in the country.

“We have both performed here, so we are very excited to do some shows.”

Duffy said that those at their show this weekend can expect some of Westlife and Boyzone’s biggest hits.

This is because the musicians have, for almost a decade, been combining music with anecdotes from their time in the globally successful ’90s and ’00s pop groups, which collectively achieved over 80 million record sales, 30 number-one singles, and 10 number-one albums.

They have also released new and original music together, with their 2020 album “Strings Attached”, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, topping the UK and Irish iTunes charts and reaching number 12 on the Official Album Chart.

Their 2022 original album, “Old School”, further demonstrated their creative growth. Together, McFadden and Duffy have combined record sales of over 80 million from their original groups.

Meanwhile, Boyzlife’s latest single, “Lovebirds”, was released on October 24.

“We write about personal experiences, about love and loss,” explained Duffy.

He added: “With this song, we wanted to celebrate love in the world, people finding each other, becoming soulmates, becoming partners for life and for the people who haven’t found the right person yet, just to let them know that person is out there, someone out there for them.”
