UPDATE: Westside Road reopens, power outage continues to affect nearly 300 residents

UPDATE: 4:30 p.m.

BC Hydro says the power is expected to be back on at 8:35 p.m. Crews are currently at the site.

UPDATE 3 p.m.

Westside Road is now fully reopen in both directions, however the power remains out for the 274 BC Hydro customers affected.

UPDATE 2:44 p.m.

Westside Road will be closed until at least 4 p.m., but a large portion has been reopened.

The closed portion of the road is now a 15 km stretch between Highway 97 South and Westside Place. Drivers are asked to watch for falling trees and debris due to the wind storm.

BC Hydro has not provided an update to when power will be restored.

UPDATE 1:50 p.m.

A stretch of Westside Road will be closed until at least 3 p.m. due to the downed lines, according to DriveBC.

A 50 km stretch of road is from Westside Place and Highway 97 North.

Additonally, there is still no estimate as to when power will be restored for the 274 affected customers.

A power outage is leaving nearly 300 West Kelowna residents in the dark late Saturday morning (Nov. 1).

The cause of the outage is knocked down powerlines along Westside Road.

The outage is affecting 274 BC Hydro customers along Westside Road, in Trader’s Cove, and along Bear Lake Main Road, all north of Brens Road.

Because of the downed line, Westside Road is closed in both directions in the area.

A BC Hydro crew has been assigned to the scene.

The power went off just after 11 a.m. and it’s unknown when the power will be fixed.

Environment Canada has a wind warning issued for West Kelowna and parts of Kelowna as wind gusts could exceed 90 km/h.
