Dodgers Fans Turn on $66M Star, Demand Trade After Costly Mistake Derails World Series Comeback

David Roberts had already given Teoscar Hernández a public reminder about his performance some time ago. “He’s got to get better out there. There’s just no way to put it. Teoscar Hernández’s defense in the outfield once again hurt the Dodgers. This time, during the most crucial Game 5 of the World Series against the Blue Jays. He misplayed a tricky liner in the fourth inning at Dodger Stadium, helping Toronto’s Daulton Varsho to reach on what should’ve been a routine play.

Instead of letting the ball drop and holding Varsho to a single, Hernández went for a sliding catch and missed it.
The ball rolled straight past him, allowing Varsho to cruise into third with a stand-up triple. The bad play cost the Dodgers right away.

Just like that, once again, Hernández is facing heavy criticism for his defense, with fans growing increasingly vocal about not wanting him back next season.
The Dodgers brought him in on a three-year, $66 million deal last offseason after his impressive 2024 performance at the plate. But this year, even his bat hasn’t lived up to expectations.
The two-time All-Star has struggled defensively all season. With Mookie Betts now playing full-time in the infield, Hernández has been tasked with holding down right field. It’s a role he’s clearly yet to settle into.

Dodgers fans have had enough of Teoscar Hernández
Criticizing his defensive lapses brutally, the Dodgers fans have made their mind. “Can’t have Teoscar Hernández as the everyday RF in 2026. A lot of talk this offseason will be about improving the bullpen, but in reality, the team needs to retool their outfield.” A fan noted.
Just as he allowed a run on a subsequent sacrifice fly, the real-time frustration flooded all over X. Teoscar Hernandez might be the dumbest player in MLB. He is truly a moron.” Naturally, it led fans to call for the Dodgers to avoid extending him.
“Next season I don’t want to see Teoscar Hernandez in right field.” Another fan noted. Hernández’s costly defensive lapses have hurt the Dodgers quite a lot. Be it the regular season or the October baseball, he couldn’t find a way to make a clean play.
Longtime dedicated dodgers fans were sure enough after this misplay that they don’t want more of him. “I changed my mind. I do NOT want the Dodgers to re-sign Teoscar Hernandez for the 2025 season.” We’ll have to wait until winter to see what the Dodgers decide about Hernández’s future. But one thing’s been clear, the 31-year-old has always put the team first. He entertained offers from other clubs last offseason, yet made it known that his heart was set on staying in L.A.
“Dodgers were the priority. I was going to do everything in my power to come back. For me, money wasn’t the issue. I could’ve gotten 5, 6 more million from other teams.” He said after signing with Los Angeles.
Another fan quipped, “Teoscar Hernandez might be the worst right fielder I’ve ever seen.” Well, clearly, the Dodgers fans have had enough. It was always going to be a tough catch for Hernández given where he started in right field on Wednesday night. But a steadier outfielder might’ve played it safe, taken the bounce, and limited Varsho to a double.
Instead, Hernández went all in and ended up missing the ball completely. The Dodgers fans can’t stand watching the team suffer from his defensive lapses any longer. Not even in the next season.
