Auburn football falls to 4-5 on the year after dropping its fifth conference game of the season, as the Tigers loss to Kentucky 10-3 Saturday night.
Auburn coach Hugh Freeze started Ashton Daniels at quarterback before going with Jackson Arnold in the fourth quarter.
Daniels would finish out the game on Auburn’s final drive after three straight three-and-outs while Arnold was under center.
Here’s what Freeze is saying in his postgame news conference about Auburn’s performance.
- Freeze starts the presser saying it has not been the year nobody expected for Auburn.
- Freeze says its ‘unacceptable’ for the way they are playing on offense.
- Freeze says Auburn could not protect against Kentucky’s front seven. Calls that the reason the offense could not move the ball.
- Freeze says they switched back to Ashton Daniels on the final drive because he was more elusive against the pressure Kentucky was bringing.
- Freeze says they max protected every third down and critical moment but still gave up the sack.
- Freeze says its ‘sickening’ that he can’t find a way to win. He says he’s frustrated too. He wishes he could ask for more patience from the fans.
- Freeze says he understands if he does not get patience from the fans.
- Freeze says it’s hard to see his defense work so hard and not get the job done.
- Freeze says the offensive line took ‘a pretty good kicking tonight’ when it comes to pass protection.
- Freeze says for Auburn to score touchdowns they have to ‘turn it loose’ or ‘improve the protection scheme’.
- Freeze says he holds the offense to the same accountability of the defense. However, it’s not translating on the field.
