Amanda Owen has disclosed how she playfully warned her daughter with “adoption” after being dismissed over one of her writing endeavours. Amanda, a television farmer celebrated for her role in programmes including Channel 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm, lives at the isolated 2,000-acre Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale, Yorkshire.
Amanda, whose widely-followed @yorkshireshepherdess Instagram profile commands an extraordinary audience of over 500,000 followers, is additionally mother to nine youngsters, Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clementine, and Nancy with former spouse Clive.
Speaking to James Fisher on the Country Life podcast, Amanda lately discussed her authorship journey, encompassing The Yorkshire Shepherdess trilogy and her latest venture into youngsters’ literature, Christmas Tales from the Farm.
This led her to recall a tale involving her daughter, Annas, and her humorous reply when questioned about whether she’d perused her mum’s publication, though it appears that’s precisely how Amanda desires “it to be”.
Amanda said: “You know, people say, ‘Well, your kids must love the fact that you’ve written a book’. As I said to Annas yesterday, I said, ‘Have you read the book?’, and she went, ‘Nah’.”

“And I said, ‘Why?’, and she went, ‘Well, I’m in it; I kinda know it’. And that’s how it is, and that’s how I want it to be. All I said was, ‘If you fail on any questions in the quiz at the back, then I’m putting you up for adoption’.”
In related news, Amanda confessed in August that she harbours concerns for her children as she divulged details about a certain “extreme” activity they relish at their expansive countryside home.
She disclosed that some of them had taken up what they termed as “extreme hide and seek”. Indeed, she elaborated on how their home also encompasses climbing spots, and they’ve “even got a cave”.

Amanda expressed it’s an “absolute joy” to be able to grant her children “that freedom”, highlighting that their family is “blessed” as they have ample space to enjoy, but she, naturally, still frets over them.
She confided to the Darlington and Stockton Times: “Yeah, course I do. You want to keep your child safe, of course. But danger comes in many forms, whether it’s vehicles, fast-flowing rivers, things with teeth and hooves, or even through a small screen.
“Who knows where the danger’s coming from, but you can’t live your life being risk-averse, and I wouldn’t teach that or champion it. Just learn how to live your life and have a sense of practicality as well.”
Amanda further stated that to “some degree”, we must be “fearless” in life and continued to say that we should be someone who takes “steps forward”, rather than someone who “shies away”.
