Emmers (21-8) earned a first-round TKO victory over Gabriel Miranda in March. Despite being one of the more underrated fighters in the UFC’s featherweight division, consistency has eluded him throughout his run. A win over Amil would mark his first consecutive victory streak inside the promotion.
Round 1 – The fight opened at a fast pace before an accidental low blow from Emmers forced a brief timeout from the referee.
Once action resumed, Amil went right back to attacking with kicks, while Emmers lunged in with quick combinations before backing out of range. Both men were trading at blistering speed, keeping the crowd fully engaged.
Emmers began mixing things up, firing crisp 1-2s down the middle before clinching and securing a quick takedown. Amil worked his way back to his feet, only for Emmers to press him against the fence in search of another takedown. Amil broke free and returned to striking range.
The exchanges stayed tight and competitive, with neither man escaping without damage. As the round wore on, Amil started to take control, pressuring Emmers against the cage and landing a flurry of punches. However, Emmers responded with a strong takedown that briefly halted Amil’s momentum.
Emmers chose to stand back up and reengage on the feet, where Amil continued to find success with his hands and clinch work. But as the round came to a close, Amil began to fade, allowing Emmers to land several heavy shots that swung the momentum his way.
Round 2 – Amil came out looking to set the pace, trying to strike first in every exchange, but Emmers stayed composed, keeping just out of range before darting in to land clean counters. Another accidental low blow from Amil briefly halted the action, his second of the fight, though the referee chose not to deduct a point.
When the fight resumed, Emmers went right back to work, landing heavy shots to the body. Amil adjusted his approach, finally cutting off the cage instead of chasing, using strikes to trap Emmers in place. Still, the veteran stayed calm, firing straight punches down the middle, catching a kick, and taking Amil down with authority.
Back on the feet, Emmers landed a knee to the head before eating a right hand from Amil, who briefly reversed position. But Emmers wasted no time shooting again, scoring another clean takedown with under two minutes remaining. From there, he maintained top control, smothering Amil and controlling the round until the horn.
Round 3 – After a couple strikes exchanged Emmers flew in, scored the takedown, and forced Amil to use a ton of energy trying to get back up. Emmers didn’t let him off the hook rolling with Amil to keep him down.
Emmers looked for the arm triangle, but he wasn’t on the correct side to finish it leaving enough room for Amil to survive. Emmers switched the arm triangle to the other side, jumped to get his legs to the right place, but Amil blocked them.
Emmers made his way to full mount and continued to look for submissions with Amil trying to go deep half to hide his head from elbows, but Emmers blocked it. Anywhere Amil went Emmers would be right on him including at one point Amil getting back to his feet on the cage and Emmers dragging him back down.
With 10 seconds left Emmers tried to get the choke, bailed on it and landed elbows as the horn sounded. The decision went to the judges, but it was clear that Emmers earned this win.
