Final day for early voting in NYC mayoral race, NJ gubernatorial race

NEW YORK (WABC) — Sunday marks the last day of in-person early voting in New York State, where the biggest race is mayor of New York City.
More than 584,000 people across the five boroughs have voted early so far, according to the NYC Board of Elections. Brooklyn had the highest turnout, with nearly 190,000 ballots cast.
Polls will be open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in New York City on Sunday.
On Saturday, Rev. Al Sharpton hosted Democratic frontrunner Zohran Mamdani at the National Action Network, though he’s not endorsing the candidate. Mamdani later appeared with NY Attorney General Letitia James, who has backed him.
“We have more than 100,000 volunteers knocking on doors. We’re hoping to break the New York State record of knocking 200,000 doors in a single day,” Mamdani said.
James has led the charge to oust Independent mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo after he was accused of sexual harassment when he was governor.
“He is not a Democrat. Yes he won the Democratic primary, but he has self-described as a socialist,” said Cuomo about Mamdani.
Curtis Sliwa, who is the Republican mayoral candidate, has throughout his campaign rejected repeated calls to drop out.
“You can talk about the polls all you want, we know it’s a ‘get out the vote’ effort,” Sliwa said.
Meanwhile, it is also the last day to vote early in the New Jersey gubernatorial race. Polls are open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli are both expected to be on campaign trail on Sunday.
Sherrill will be in Hudson, Camden and Burlington counties, while Ciattarelli hits up Monmouth and Ocean counties.
On Saturday, Sherrill joined former President Barack Obama in Newark, making her case to voters.
“When people across the nation look at me with fear and despair in their eyes. When they ask me, is New Jersey up for this moment?” Sherrill said. “You guys just stole my line, my answer is hell yeah!”
Ciattarelli criticized the former president’s endorsement.
“I call this the choreography of campaigns, it’s not going to matter. At the end of the day, the candidate has to win the race. So when people ask me, who you’re bringing in, I say Jack Ciattarelli,” the Republican candidate said.
The latest poll from Atlas Intel shows Sherrill ahead of Ciattarelli 50% to 49%, suggesting the race is neck and neck.
