Former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg delivers verdict on Auston Trusty’s Celtic yellow vs Jack Butland

Another Celtic vs Rangers game and another contentious refereeing decision is being spoken about.
Unlike the last Glasgow Derby, the Premier Sports Cup semi-final between Celtic and Rangers was a stark contrast to the drab 0-0 draw both teams served up back in August.
The game was overshadowed by two big refereeing calls with one that had a big bearing on the course of how this game panned out.
We’ll get to Thelo Asgaard’s red card later, but for now, former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg has delivered his verdict on Auston Trusty’s yellow card after his late first half challenge on Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Auston Trusty told he is a ‘lucky boy’ after the Celtic defender’s challenge on Jack Butland
Trusty went in for a 50/50 ball in the dying seconds of the first half with Celtic 1-0 up when the American appeared to leave his foot in late.
With many fans and pundits believing Trusty should have seen red, 67 Hail Hail asked Clattenburg’s opinion on the controversial challenge.
Clattenburg told 67 Hail Hail, “Auston Trusty is a lucky boy after catching Jack Butland with his foot after Butland caught the ball.
“There is no need for Trusty to move his foot towards the head of Butland and I believe by that movement was deliberate.”
So it appears that Trusty was extremely fortunate not to have been sent for an early shower and join Asgaard in the Hampden stands.
VAR causes another Celtic vs Rangers talking point
VAR continues to cause controversy as the video referee is being talked about more than the game itself.
With a cup final appearance still on the cards, the match officials once again dominate the headlines.
It will be interesting to hear Willie Collum’s take on this in the next VAR Review show as this is yet another controversy the head of referees must answer to.
