West Ham 3-1 Newcastle: What Nuno Espirito Santo and Jarrod Bowen said

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been speaking to Sky Sports after his side claimed their first home win of the season: “It feels really good. We are happy and proud of the way we played the game. The boys did amazingly and the reaction of the team was amazing.

“We had a lot of moments against us but it was a fantastic reaction. Off the ball is what concerns me the most and I think we took a good step in the way we wanted.

“This means a lot to us, but nothing is done. We have a lot of work to do and we will start trying to improve more next week.”

West Ham debutant Freddie Potts spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live after the match: “I wanted to come here and get the win. I didn’t even think about anything to do with man of the match.

“It is now something to build on. We have a big chance of getting another three points next weekend. There was something about this week, we have been really together. We knew when the first goal went in that we needed to bounce back and show the fans we’ve got character.

“There is a lot of noise from outside, so it’s important that we stick together.”

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen also spoke to Sky Sports about the team turning around their form: “It has been a difficult period. I always say the same thing: we are the only ones that can change it. We did that today.

“We have got potential as a group, we just haven’t shown it enough recently. The potential we have got, we have to understand it and go out there and show it. I thought this was a start of that.”
