The Hedge Maze Halloween Update – 99 Nights in the Forest Guide

The third part of the three Halloween updates coming to 99 Nights in the Forest is here: The Hedge Maze. Instead of making potions like the previous update, we now have a carnival and haunted maze to explore. You’ll be able to play games, search for treasure, and unlock more items in the Halloween Shop before they’re gone. Learn all about the new update, The Hedge Maze, in our guide below!
What to Know About The Hedge Maze Update
The big part of this update is that there’s now a carnival with minigames you can play for both Candy and Carnival Tickets. However, you’ll have to wait until Day 3 for the Carnival to open up. Once this happens, a message will appear on your screen that says, “The Carnival is in town”. And you’ll hear some fitting music alongside it too.
You shouldn’t have to expand your campfire too many times to reach where the Carnival games are, but due to how the map always changes, we can’t guarantee this. It only took us two or maybe three times before we could reach the Carnival and Haunted Maze.
Fortunately, the Haunted Maze is right next to the Carnival, so once you’ve found the games, you’re in the right spot. In order to enter the Hedge Maze to search for rewards, you’ll need to earn three Carnival Tickets first.
If you’re playing Carnival games at night, be careful since the Deer can still hunt you down. Unless you’re on the first night where they’re not hunting yet, we recommend waiting to play those minigames during the daytime.
How to Get Tickets in 99 Nights in the Forest
You can get Carnival Tickets by earning the right number of points at each of the three games. Earning more than needed or even doubling the required score won’t give you extra tickets. Here are how many points you’ll need for each game to win a ticket:
- Ring Toss – You’ll need to get three points to get a ticket from this game. For each ring you toss onto a bottle, you’ll score one point.
- Basketball – You’ll need to get three points to get a ticket from this game. For each basketball you get into the hoop, you’ll get one point. While you can shoot from anywhere, we tried standing in front of the game and clicking between the timer and score.
- Shooting Range – This is the only one where you’ll have to get five points to score a ticket. Using an Air Rifle, you can shoot five different targets moving back and forth. This one can be tough due to how fast they move. If you have the time, you can aim ahead of it and wait for your target to get to where you’re aiming.
Once you’ve earned three tickets, the Haunted Maze gate will immediately open up. Surprisingly enough, you don’t actually need to bring the tickets to the gate. After you’ve earned your tickets, you can continue playing the Carnival games, but you won’t earn anything.
The toughest part of each game is scoring high enough before running out of time. But don’t worry, you can always keep trying until you get enough points. We even had some trouble with the Ring Toss game on our first try!
How to Get Through the Haunted Maze
Once the Haunted Maze is open, you can head over to the big gate and interact with the button prompt that appears to go inside. Before you enter, it’s important to mention you won’t be able to immediately return. You’ll need to make it to the end of the maze before you can leave.
This is why it’s useful to bring food and Bandages just in case it takes you a while to get through it. When we got through the maze early on in our playthrough, we ran into a few wolves and one Alpha Wolf at the end. While you can spend longer in the maze searching for chests to loot, here are some tips to get to the end:
- If you see a big red arrow pointing in a direction, go that way. There are a few arrows throughout the maze that actually are helpful.
- If you’re lost and can’t figure out where to go, follow the wall on your right. Keep walking along it and you’ll eventually find your way out. This works with mazes in real life too, as long as there isn’t a wall that isn’t attached to the rest of the maze.
- Reaching the end of the maze has a chest with a Bouncing Blade inside and a wooden hatch beyond it. Interact with the wooden hatch to leave.
We’re not sure if the chests inside the Haunted Maze will refill, but we ran through it a second time and they didn’t. This doesn’t mean there isn’t a timer where they’ll fill back up with loot eventually, however. We just weren’t able to confirm it.
Check Out the New Vampire Class
The Hedge Maze update also added a new and permanent class to 99 Nights in the Forest. You can now buy the Vampire class for 600 Gems to get buffs at night and some lifesteal. Depending on the tier of your class, you’ll get different bonuses, as is the case with any class. Many players will likely appreciate being able to run faster at night.
