Runners carb-load before hitting the streets in TCS NYC Marathon

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — The line was out the door at Parm on the Upper West Side on Saturday night.

It was filled with carb-loading marathon runners who were hungry for pasta and for a taste of victory.

“I think it’s such an impressive accomplishment. You don’t want to let yourself down, or other people you’ve been working with or training with, so you really want to kind of go out there and show your best and get through it,” said Elizabeth Roseman.

Helping Roseman get through her first marathon will be her fiancé Travis McKenzie running alongside her.

“I think there’s going to be moments where I’m feeling good and I’ll be encouraging her, there’s going to be moments where I might not be feeling good and she’ll pick up the slack, and I think that’s the most exciting thing – we’re going to do it together,” said McKenzie.

More than 55,000 runners will embark on a journey not for the faint of heart — 26.2 miles.

Madison Rausch brought her mom, best friend and fiancé to energize her as she runs for a good cause.

“I’m actually running with ‘Team for Kids’ – I work with kids. I’m a physician’s assistant in pediatric emergency medicine so I felt it kind of fit perfectly with the charity and my kind of passion so I decided to go for it,” Rausch said.

The cause is very personal for David Burke, he started running after he lost his mom.

“It was quite a challenging time and I needed a sense of purpose,” Burke said.

Many first timers were feeling the jitters, but when they take to the streets they will be met with more than a million people — the majority of whom they don’t even know — cheering them on in pure New York City fashion.
