Barcelona’s conditions for signing 28-year-old forward on a permanent transfer in 2026

Marcus Rashford’s signing has, so far, been a success story for FC Barcelona. The Blaugrana managed to secure a favourable loan thanks to the forward’s strong desire to play for the club and his strained relationship with Manchester United.

The Barça sporting department is delighted with the Englishman’s performances and is open to making the move permanent. But the deal will hinge on Rashford’s willingness to adapt his contract terms.

Lower salary, long contract – Barcelona’s conditions

Indeed, according to SPORT, Barcelona wish to keep Rashford beyond this season, but have set a couple of conditions for the forward, for the deal to be pushed ahead.

The idea would involve extending his contract through 2030 while reducing his annual salary significantly. The longer term would provide the player with both financial stability and long-term earnings potential.

Barcelona understand that Manchester United will not budge on the €30 million permanent buy clause in the player’s loan agreement – a fair and reasonable price considering Rashford’s recent impact.

As such, the focus is now on Rashford’s contract structure. Prior to his falling out at Manchester United, the 28-year-old signed a new contract until 2028.

His salary, including bonuses and taxes, can reach nearly €40 million per year – a figure Barcelona simply cannot match.

Rashford already agreed to a pay cut for this season, but the summer will bring new offers, meaning the outcome will depend largely on his personal commitment to staying at Camp Nou.

Rashford’s entourage has already communicated his openness to a deal. But Barça insist on the player lowering his salary and accepting a long-term deal, potentially until 2030, for the transfer to be financially feasible for them.

Both sides are proceeding carefully, though negotiations are already in motion. Extending the loan for another season seems unlikely, so efforts are focused on shaping a permanent agreement. For now, Barça’s stance is clear: they want to keep Rashford.
