Bears elevate 2022 Raiders draft pick amid D’Andre Swift’s injury

The Chicago Bears are heading into a Week 9 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals without a few key players on offense. While second-round rookie Luther Burden II is out, the Bears’ biggest loss is in the running back room.

D’Andre Swift is out for the Week 9 contest, as is backup running back Roschon Johnson. Kyle Monangai and Travis Homer are the only healthy running backs left on the roster, making depth an issue for the Bears’ running back room.

With a need for more depth in their running back room, the Bears announced that, ahead of Week 9, they have elevated former Las Vegas Raiders 2022 draft pick Brittain Brown to the game-day roster from the practice squad.

Bears activate Brittain Brown to the active roster for Week 9

Brown is a former draft pick by the Raiders from the 2022 NFL Draft. Selected in the seventh round at pick 250, Brown has been bouncing around the NFL.

He stayed with the Raiders until 2024, when Las Vegas released him at the end of the preseason. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad and stayed there for the rest of the season.

Over the summer of 2025, the Bears signed Brown to their roster before eventually releasing him at roster cutdowns. Shortly thereafter, Brown signed back with the Bears’ practice squad.

And now, for the first time since the 2022 season, Brown is slated to be active for gameday and the playoffs in the NFL. He’s primarily been a special teamer, logging 61 snaps in 2022 with Las Vegas.

But now, with Swift and Johnson both out, Brown could see his first offensive snaps in the NFL. The 28-year-old will back up Monangai in the Bears’ backfield against the worst run defense in the NFL.

Brown’s first offensive snap could come in the Week 9 matchup, and he could also get a touch in the NFL for the first time in his four seasons in the NFL.
