Ian Rapoport just dropped the demoralizing Terry McLaurin update fans dreaded

There will be no Terry McLaurin for the Washington Commanders once again in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks. The wide receiver reaggravated a quad problem during his first game back versus the Kansas City Chiefs, which represents yet another body blow to the team’s chances of finally getting their campaign on track.

And it might get a lot worse before things get better.

The Commanders have to make the best out of a bad situation. It’s not ideal without the team’s talisman in the wideout room, but a new report suggests that Washington will have to make do without McLaurin for a lot longer yet.

Commanders could be without Terry McLaurin until after their bye week

Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network revealed that the Commanders aren’t expected to have McLaurin available in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. The respected insider also hinted that Washington might shut down the former Ohio State standout until after the bye week when push comes to shove.

“My understanding is that he is going to be out next week as well. The third game, he could also miss. They have a bye after that, so there is a possibility that [Terry] McLaurin misses three more games for Washington.”

This is a near-doomsday scenario for McLaurin and the Commanders. He’s played in just four games this season, and didn’t exactly look the sharpest after a lengthy contract standoff with the franchise this offseason. It’s an immensely frustrating situation, and this is the first time that the second-team All-Pro has dealt with a prolonged injury absence since entering the league.

McLaurin’s influence is sorely missed. The Commanders haven’t come close to meeting raised expectations this season. Injuries have played their part around the league, but the frequency and severity of the issues Washington is dealing with right now have been nothing short of astonishing.

Losing McLaurin for more than half the campaign isn’t what anybody anticipated. He’s adopted an Iron Man image since arriving as a third-round pick in 2019. His influence on the field and ability as a locker room leader cannot be overstated. Not having this inspirational presence is causing an adverse ripple effect, and it’s also why general manager Adam Peters was reluctant to meet his asking price this offseason.

Hopefully, this will be the end of McLaurin’s health troubles. Even if that means it might be another month before fans get to see their beloved franchise cornerstone back to anything like his old self.
