DWP Christmas Bonus to enter bank accounts on these dates

Millions of households will get extra cash during the festive period

Free cash will be entering bank accounts.

People who claim certain benefits will be receiving a Christmas Bonus payment from the DWP.

The extra payment is designed to help with costs over the expensive festive period.

Qualifying benefits include PIP, Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance.

Those who only receive Universal Credit will not qualify, however.

Households need to be receiving eligible benefits during the first week of December, known as the qualifying week.

Then the payments should arrive before Christmas. Cash will enter bank accounts automatically and there’s no need to apply.

So the first three weeks of December is when eligible households need to be checking their bank accounts for the extra cash.

Though it may make a difference to some people, the small amount of money has led critics to label the bonus essentially worthless, particularly as it has remained unchanged for years as prices have risen.

There have been calls for the amount to be raised.

The Government says: “The Christmas Bonus is a one-off tax-free £10 payment made before Christmas, paid to people who get certain benefits in the qualifying week.

“This is normally the first full week of December.

“You do not need to claim – you should get paid automatically.”
