Austin FC vs. LAFC: Predictions, How to Watch for Free (Game 2)

LAFC faces Austin FC tonight in Game 2 of their 2025 MLS Cup Round One series, looking to complete the sweep in this best-of-three matchup.

LAFC took Game 1 at home 2-1, with 21-year-old forward Nathan Ordaz scoring the game-winner in the 79th minute. The first goal came from an own goal by Austin defender Brendan Hines-Ike in the 19th, before Jon Gallagher briefly drew Austin level in the 63rd.

Despite the win, LAFC didn’t get on the board through their star duo, Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-min, who closed out the regular season combining for 18 straight team goals — an MLS record. Expect both to make their presence felt tonight.

Statistically, Austin actually controlled most of Game 1 with 58.7% possession and nearly double the completed passes, but LAFC were far more dangerous in the attacking third. They outshot Austin 18 to 8 and landed six shots on goal compared to just two for the visitors. LAFC also earned eight corner kicks to Austin’s one, showing how much pressure they applied when in possession.

Goalkeeper Brad Stuver kept Austin in it with four saves, while Austin’s defense picked up two yellow cards as they struggled to contain LAFC’s pace.

Austin must now find a way to turn their possession advantage into real scoring opportunities. They’ll need near-flawless defending and better finishing to extend the series. LAFC, meanwhile, can afford to sit back and counter — their composure and attacking firepower give them a clear edge even away from home.

Prediction

Austin will ride the energy of their home crowd, but LAFC’s class and efficiency should prove too much down the stretch. Expect a tight contest early before LAFC pull away late.

Predicted Score: Austin FC 1, Los Angeles FC 2
