With the Lakers up 107-102, Nikola Jovic had the ball for the Heat. He was being defended by Ausin Reaves when Hayes went in for the help. It opened up Kel’el Ware, who received an easy alley oop from Jovic to cut down the Lakers’ lead to just three points.
Redick immediately called a timeout and had a valid crash out, shouting at his players for not playing good defense. Hayes missed his assignment, while Rui Hachimura was too late to rotate. It was baffling that the $3.4 million backup big man would double someone like Jovic, instead of just helping if he gets through Reaves’ defense.
