NYC mayoral candidates make final push ahead of Election Day

NEW YORK (WABC) — The polls are now closed until Tuesday. So if you haven’t voted yet and you want to, you’ll need to get to your regular voting location then. Turnout has been strong, and voters seem to appreciate it, if they’ve decided on their candidates.
“I wanted my kid to vote with me and to see the voting process. And we talked about the issues and the different candidates for mayor,” said Jon Ross.
The last early voters made up their minds Sunday on the issues and the candidates for mayor, while the the three candidates spent the day trying to sway those who have yet to decide.
“To actually get something done, you need to know how government works. How the city works, how the state works, how the federal government works,” said NYC Mayoral Candidate Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo, in a church in Norwood, the Bronx, touted his own experience over Zohran Mamdani’s.
“This kid is going to deal with Donald Trump? I don’t think so. Donald Trump will step on him and do whatever he wants in New York,” said Cuomo.
Mamdani, thanking campaign volunteers, took issue with other criticism he’s gotten from Cuomo, whom he beat in the democratic primary and now finds himself trying to defeat again.
“He has said that I do not understand New York City values, I do not know New York City culture, that I do not understand 9/11. I am someone who grew up in the city. I came to the city at the age of seven. And what I will not do is try and debate who belongs here. What I will instead do is deliver for everyone who does,” said Mamdani.
Earlier in a Harlem church he doubled down on his message of making the city more affordable… While Curtis Sliwa blamed Cuomo for Mamdani’s popularity.
“Andrew Cuomo has forsaken all of you. He never ran a race. He admitted it. He depended on all his billionaire friends,” said Sliwa.
Sliwa, claimed to a crowd in Queens’ Forest Park that some of those billionaires have offered him big bucks to drop out.
“And I told ’em, what you’re doing is unethical. It’s bribery and it might be illegal, And the next time you talk to me, I’ll be wired up like a Christmas tree,” added Sliwa.
Mamdani still holds a lead in the polls, but it has been shrinking to a single digit advantage. with Cuomo gaining some ground in the last few surveys in the last couple of weeks. Mamdani told reporters on Sunday that he doesn’t trust any of the polls, which until the very last minute did have him behind Cuomo leading up to the primary.
