New York City’s mayoral race is nearing the finish line as the candidates try to rally more voters and sway the undecided toward tomorrow’s Election Day polls. Here’s the lates polling numbers and the winning odds.
In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” on Sunday, President Donald Trump was asked about choosing between Zohran Mamdani, a democratic docialist, and Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat running as an independent, to which he responded, “I’m not a fan of Cuomo one way or another, but if it’s going to be between a bad Democrat and a communist,” falsely claiming Mamdani is a communist, “I’m going to pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you.”
Adding, “Communist, not socialist,” Trump said. “He’s far worse than a socialist.”
Note, that while communism and democratic socialism share some features, communist societies are not democratic. Communism is most associated with the one-party dictatorships of the Soviet Union and present-day China.
In the past month’s worth of polls, Democrat Mamdani remains in the lead, however the lead has continued to shrink week to week as Independent Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa have been gaining ground to replace incumbent Mayor Eric Adams.
In the latest Quinnipiac poll, Mamdani leads with 43% support among likely voters, Cuomo receives 33%, Sliwa receives 14%, and 6% were undecided, while 3% refused to respond.
According to the Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Mary Snow, she said “The candidates have made their case, early voting is underway, Zohran Mamdani has a 10-point lead over Andrew Cuomo with Curtis Sliwa a distant third, but one wildcard remains. The percentage of likely voters not weighing in has increased a bit since earlier this month, suggesting there’s room for movement in the final stretch.”
