Bears DE Dayo Odeyingbo out for season with torn Achilles

The Chicago Bears’ injury struggles on defense continue. Defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo has torn his Achilles and is out for the season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Odeyingbo suffered the Achilles injury during Sunday’s 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, where he finished with one tackle and one QB hit. In eight games this season, Odeyingbo totaled 21 tackles, including two tackles for loss, one sack, four QB hits and one pass deflection.

The Bears signed Odeyingbo to a three-year, $48 million contract, with $32 million guaranteed, during free agency to pair with former Pro Bowler Montez Sweat. So far, Chicago’s pass rush has underperformed with 17 sacks.

The Bears did get some good news with Austin Booker making his season debut on Sunday, where he logged a sack and two tackles, with one tackle for loss. Even assuming Booker steps into that starting role opposite Sweat, Chicago has some depth concerns at edge rusher with Dominique Robinson currently sidelined with a high ankle sprain.

With Odeyingbo out for the season, you have to wonder if general manager Ryan Poles will look to make a move ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, where guys like Jermaine Johnson and Bradley Chubb could be potenital options.
