Home Under the Hammer’s Martin Roberts opens up on show regret ‘it’s difficult for me’

Martin Roberts admitted it was “difficult” for him to let go of some of his cherished possessions while taking part in the new series of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House.
During the episode, which airs tonight, Martin meets up with Angus Ashworth, who helps Martin declutter his home. However, it’s safe to say, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the property expert.
The Homes Under the Hammer star, who has a passion for antiques and collectibles, joked that his experience filming for the show was “terrible”.
And while he did make a pretty profit, Martin said in an exclusive interview with Reach PLC that he did regret selling some of his items.
When speaking about his love for antiques and why he wanted to take part in the show, Martin began, “I’ve always been into and still am into collectibles, collecting things, antiques.
“I’m really good at buying stuff, I’m really c**p at selling it. So over the years, I’ve amassed mountains of stuff, and I’m currently renovating a pub in South Wales and getting lots of stuff, which we’ll use to deck out the interior.”
When referring to the items he has collected over the years, Martin went on, “Some of which I realised were impulse or possibly not an ideal purchase.
“So I’ve just never got around to selling it…psychologically it’s very difficult for me, and the whole experience on Yorkshire Auction House was terrible because I had to sell stuff, and I don’t like it.”
Martin said he believes Angus was “happy” with the items he took away to sell as they were “interesting” and “had a story behind them”.
He admitted, “I don’t regret selling some of the things. I do regret selling some of the things. So, I would say it was a hugely traumatic experience that I never want to repeat.”
The Homes Under the Hammer expert went on to explain that he struggled sitting in the sale room, joking he “had to have my hands stapled to the chair” to stop him from bidding on his own items.
Martin shared, “I went to a car boot sale. I found them. I negotiated, and I carried them back to the car. I put them in storage.
“So it’s not just like I kind of ordered them on Amazon Prime and what they delivered. They all had pain associated with them, and you know, I’m just really rubbish at getting rid of stuff.”
Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House airs tonight on Really and is available to stream on discovery+.
