Father-son duo Paudie and Andrew swapping ‘The Traitors’ for this week’s ‘Gogglebox Ireland’
Father-son duo Paudie and Andrew Moloney will take to the sofa on Wednesday night, swapping the cloaks, plotting and betrayal of The Traitors for a night of TV commentary.
The pair will be joined on Gogglebox Ireland by Aoife Moloney, Paudie’s daughter and Andrew’s sister.
“I’m really looking forward to doing Gogglebox, it’s always a real favourite in our house,” Paudie said ahead of the show.
“Watching telly and eating biscuits with my children Aoife and Andrew without having to wear a cloak, hug a stranger or plot a murder will be a lovely relaxing change from my last time on telly.”
The father-son dynamic between Paudie and Andrew was one of the highlights of the popular debut series of Ireland’s version of The Traitors, as they decided against revealing their family ties to the other contestants.
Paudie became a particular favourite among the viewing public, with some on social media affectionately dubbing him ‘The Paud-Father’.
The Moloneys are natives of Kilmallock in Co Limerick, however Andrew opted to pretend to be from Co Cork, where he works, to further throw the other players off the scent.
One of the moments of the series came early on when, within earshot of the rest of the group, Andrew had a slip of the tongue and referred to Paudie as “daddy”.
The rest of The Traitors cast only learned the pair were father and son when Paudie revealed it to them upon his elimination from the show.
As one of the programmes original three traitors, Paudie received a great deal of support from audience members as his fellow traitors, Eamon and Katelyn, conspired against him.
After outlasting both Eamon and Katelyn, Paudie brought Andrew on board as a traitor, but both were eventually found out by their peers.
68-year-old Paudie is a retired prison officer, while Andrew works as a civil servant.
It was ultimately the remaining faithfuls –Oyin Adeyemi, Vanessa Ogbonna and Kelley Higgins – who came out on top in the finale of The Traitors, as they sussed out traitors Ben Donohue and Nick O’Loughlin, taking home a prize of €42,900.
This week’s episode of Gogglebox Ireland airs on Wednesday at 9pm on Virgin Media Play and Virgin Media One.
