GAMEDAY: South Carolina women’s basketball tipping off season vs. Grand Canyon

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The No. 2 South Carolina women’s basketball team is set to ring in the 2025-26 season Monday as the Gamecocks host Grand Canyon.

Here’s what to know ahead of tipoff:
WHAT TIME IS TIPOFF? WHERE CAN I WATCH?
The game kicks off Monday at 7 p.m. and will be televised on SEC Network+. It will also air on the radio via the Gamecock Sports Network.
A special pregame ceremony honoring the 2024-25 season will begin at 6:40 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gamecocks defeated No. 11 North Carolina, 91-82, in an exhibition game on Oct. 30 in Atlanta. South Carolina also took down in-state foe Anderson, 112-31, in an earlier exhibition at home.
STARTING OFF STRONG
South Carolina is 15-2 in season openers under head coach Dawn Staley. They’re also opening the season for the first time at home since 2022.
FAMILY REUNION
The Gamecocks will face former assistant coach Winston Gandy, who took the head coaching job at Grand Canyon during the offseason. Gandy spent the past two seasons as an assistant in Columbia.
Grand Canyon assistant coach Chloe Rice also joined Gandy’s staff from South Carolina.
WATCH THE CLOCK
The new season also brings some rule changes, including the newly implemented timeout clock by the SEC. It’s located just below the shot clock on each backboard.
Some NCAA rule changes are also in effect, such as the shot clock being set to 20 seconds when the offense is awarded the ball for a throw-in in their frontcourt.
EARLY RESERVATIONS
The Gamecocks also announced Monday that they will tip off the 2026 season in Paris.
