Minnesota United has its sights set on eliminating the Seattle Sounders from the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs on Monday night.
The first meeting in this first-round series between these Western Conference rivals went right down to the wire.

Despite being the visiting club last Monday, the Sounders did everything they could to pull off a stunning win. However, as they did to Minnesota, they stifled their opposition’s attack, leading to a scoreless match through 90 minutes.
Penalties were needed to decide a winner, and Minnesota would come out on top in the shootout, winning 3-2, taking the vital advantage in the best-of-three series.
Minnesota possibly could have had a more favorable matchup in the opening round of the postseason, had they not lost to the likes of the Chicago Fire and Los Angeles Galaxy, or squandered points against the Colorado Rapids. Yet, the team has home-field advantage for the first time since the 2020 playoffs, when Minnesota made it all the way to the Western Conference Final, losing to the Sounders.
Seattle made it to the conference final last year and has its sights set on doing it again, though they will have to work a little bit harder this time. Last season, the Sounders finished fourth in the West. Now, despite being at home, they have to play like there is no tomorrow, or else their season will be finished.
