Fox News host Mark Levin completely botched Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) religion while praising the Republican senator during an event on Sunday.
Lashing out at former Fox News colleague Tucker Carlson during a live interview at the Republican Jewish Coalition Conference in Las Vegas, Levin protested:
How about Tucker Qatarlson? What did he do for the country? He interviews the Qatari, he interviews Putin. He interviews the lowest of scum, genocidal maniacs on the face of the earth. Now he’s attacking Christian Zionists. He’s literally attacking the Bible that out evangelical Christian brothers and sisters– and it’s not just them. It’s Catholics.
Ted Cruz is a Catholic, he’s a great man. He’s out there fighting. They’re attacking Christianity. Why? Because Christianity rejects what they’re spewing too. Judaism rejects, Christianity rejects it, atheists reject it, agnostics reject it. Gay people, straight people, women, men, we all reject it. So why is it so hard for people in my business or people in leading positions in government to do the same thing? What are they afraid of? They need to be afraid of regular Americans like you and me. They need to be afraid of us.
Cruz is not a Catholic, but an evangelical Christian who belongs to the Southern Baptist Convention – a fact that was quickly picked up on social media.
“Levin forgets Ted Cruz is an evangelical and claims he’s a Catholic. Needs to correct that before becoming a surrogate for Ted ’28,” mocked conservative journalist Scott Greer.
While Cruz’s father Rafael Cruz was Catholic during his early years, he left the Church in the 1970s to become an evangelical preacher and raised his son as an evangelical Christian.
President Donald Trump taunted Cruz over his faith during the 2016 presidential Republican primary, writing in a social media post, “How can Ted Cruz be an Evangelical Christian when he lies so much and is so dishonest?”
