Susanna Reid opens up about life as a single mother to her three sons

Presenter Susanna Reid, well-known for her role on “Good Morning Britain,” balances her television career with her responsibilities as a devoted mother to three sons: Sam, Finn, and Jack. At 54, Reid embraces her role as a “boy mum,” having raised her children with her ex-partner, journalist Dominic Cotton, 58. The couple shared their lives for 16 years before separating in 2014, but they have continued to co-parent effectively, prioritizing their children’s well-being. Reid once emphasized the importance of creating a stable environment for their sons in an interview, stating that co-parenting was their primary focus after the split.
As her children grow older, Reid reflects on the bittersweet experience of them leaving home. In a candid moment with The Mirror in December 2022, she expressed her feelings about her eldest son, Sam, moving out, saying, “You cry your heart out because all that regular time with your children has gone.” She also noted her desire to cherish every moment with them, acknowledging that they are all on the verge of independence.
Despite their busy lives, Susanna does her best to carve out family time. Earlier this year, she even enjoyed a night out clubbing with her sons in Ibiza—a rare opportunity for them to bond outside of their everyday routines. Additionally, in an interview with Woman & Home in March, she shared a house rule during family dinners: no phones at the table. She insists on keeping the focus on their time together, even steering clear of distractions like checking for information on TV programs.
Susanna’s eldest son, Sam, born in 2002, is now about 23 years old. He left home in October 2020 to pursue university studies, a significant transition for both mother and son. Reid admitted that the experience was emotional for her, confessing to “obviously” crying during his departure. Nevertheless, she maintains a close connection with him through regular phone calls, expressing joy in their ongoing communication, saying, “He’s gone, but he’s not gone gone.”

Susanna’s second son, Finn, born in 2004, is currently around 21 years old. Information about him is less publicly available, as Reid has kept her children’s lives relatively private. Her youngest son, Jack, who is approximately 20 years old and was born in 2005, similarly remains out of the spotlight. Recognizing the demands of motherhood during significant academic milestones, Reid took a step back from extra work in March 2022 to support her sons as they tackled their GCSEs and A levels, highlighting her commitment to being present in their lives.
Through the ups and downs of parenthood, Susanna Reid remains devoted to her role as a mother while also pursuing her successful career in broadcasting.
