Shinn was back in the saddle for the race after he finished sixth in the Melbourne Cup aboard Vauban.

Things however took an ugly turn in the closing stages of the race when Shinn, aboard She’s Got Pizzazz, got tangled up between two other horses.

The coming together saw She’s Got Pizzazz lose her footing which in turn sent Shinn crashing to the turf.

Paramedics quickly rushed to the jockey as he laid on the track. He received treatment before being loaded into an ambulance.

The Victorian Jockeys Association released an update shortly after the incident.

“After a fall at Flemington, Blake Shinn is to be transported to hospital with a suspected broken left leg,” they said.

Kerrin McEvoy ultimately won the ninth race of the day, causing a huge upset on the back of outsider Dance To The Boom.

As he spoke with Billy Slater after the victory his attention quickly turned to the health of his fellow jockey.

“Firstly, I just hope Blake Shinn is OK,” McEvoy told Nine.

“You don’t like to see a riderless horse after a race.”

The horror scenes unfolded after Jamie Melham made history by becoming the first female jockey to achieve the historic Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double on board Half Yours.

Melham piloted her five-year-old gelding to the line in supreme fashion.

Half Yours bolted clear by several lengths at the 100m mark and was never troubled.

Half Yours was the only Aussie-bred horse in the entire field of 24 horses and it becomes just the 13th runner in Melbourne Cup history to do the Cups double.

Melham has previously been known as a Melbourne Cup bridesmaid, but never a bride — until now.
