New York City Elections
Tuesday’s mayoral election is one of the marquee races of 2025. There are a number of other city offices up this year along with six ballot measures for voters to consider.
Live results will be available after the polls close at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
Mayor
Prediction Market
Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has a double-digit polling lead over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa as he looks to become the new mayor of America’s largest city. Mamdani stunned the political world by winning the Democratic nomination in June, using social media to amplify a very progressive platform.
Cuomo, who lost in that Democratic primary, is on the ballot line for the ‘Fight and Deliver’ party, which he formed back in May. Mayor Eric Adams, who ran as an independent, ended his campaign in late September. However, he remains on the ballot. Sliwa is again the GOP nominee; he lost to Adams in 2021.
Polls close at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
Other City Offices
Comptroller
The Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer of the City. Democrat Brad Lander retired in an unsuccessful effort to run for mayor.
Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine won the Democratic nomination. He is favored over Republican Peter Kefalas.
Public Advocate
The Public Advocate is the liaison between citizens and government. The office investigates complaints against city agencies.
The incumbent is also first in the line of succession to the mayor. This role gained some visibility earlier this year after Mayor Eric Adams was indicted.
Jumaane Williams is expected to win a second term.
Manhattan District Attorney
This is actually a state government office that covers Manhattan.
The only prosecutor to convict a president, incumbent Alvin Bragg (D) seeks reelection as one of the most well-known district attorneys in the country. Interestingly, he isn’t discussing the case on the campaign trail. He is being challenged by Maud Maron (R) and Diana Florence (I).
Borough Presidents
Each of the boroughs of New York City has a president. All of these offices are up for a four-year term.
The office is open in Manhattan. The current Borough President, Mark Levine, is running for Comptroller. Brad Hoylman-Sigal won the Democratic primary and is favored.
Incumbents are expected to be reelected in the four outer boroughs.
Ballot Measures
New York City voters will see six measures on their ballot. The first one is an amendment to the New York constitution that will be voted on statewide. The others are NYC-specific.
