There’s nothing quite like a Call of Duty Black Ops release.
Well, aside from Grand Theft Auto 6 dropping in in 2026, but you know what I mean. Call of Duty Black Ops 7 makes its way to consoles this month and it promises to deliver a surprisingly deep campaign and the most innovative multiplayer experience in the iconic series’ history.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Release Date and Platforms

What’s New in Black Ops 7
Set in 2035—the game follows David “Section” Mason leading a Joint Special Operations Command team investigating the apparent return of Raul Menendez and mysterious connections to military tech giant The Guild.
For the first time in Black Ops history, the campaign supports co-op play, allowing players to squad up with friends or tackle missions solo across locations spanning neon-lit Tokyo rooftops, Mediterranean coastlines, and frozen Alaskan tundras.
Multiplayer at Launch:
- 16 6v6 maps
- 2 20v20 maps (Ground War/Skirmish)
- Enhanced Omnimovement system with 360-degree sprinting, diving, sliding, and other new mechanics
- Over 50 weapons at launch mixing futuristic prototypes with Black Ops classics
- Classic modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, Kill Confirmed, Control, Gunfight
- New mode: Overload (objective-based 6v6)
Treyarch announced during the October beta that Black Ops 7 will feature non-disbanding multiplayer lobbies at launch, addressing a major community complaint from recent entries.
Zombies Returns to the Dark Aether
Treyarch’s legendary round-based Zombies mode returns with “a descent into madness” set in the ever-shifting Dark Aether. The debut map is rumored to be the largest Zombies map Treyarch has ever created, with more scuttlebutt suggesting vehicle integration for traversal between points of interest. This is unconfirmed but has been mentioned in forums and non-official accounts.
Players can choose between the Black Ops 6 crew or returning fan-favorites Edward Richtofen, “Tank” Dempsey, Takeo Masaki, and Nikolai Belinski.
Features include new wonder weapons, strategic Ultra GobbleGum packs, and dynamic environmental hazards. Leaks suggest the mode will feature six maps throughout its life cycle, with post-launch content exploring settings like post-WWII New York City and a Japanese temple at an erupting volcano.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 – PC System Requirements
Recommended:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 / AMD RX 6600 XT (8 GB VRAM)
- Storage: 125 GB SSD
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
The TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements are mandatory for the Windows version, with Activision stating this provides “the strongest safeguard possible” against cheaters. The RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system achieved 99% cheater-free matches during the beta, with cheaters detected within three matches—the strongest beta results in Call of Duty history.
Warzone Integration and Post-Launch Content
Black Ops 7 operators, weapons, and maps will integrate into Warzone at launch, with a battle royale overhaul planned for Season 1 (expected in December 2025). The game features full cross-play and cross-progression via Activision accounts, with accessibility options including controller remapping and colorblind modes.
The marketing push included a cinematic reveal during the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase, followed by a full gameplay reveal at Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live. Call of Duty: Next on September 30 provided extensive multiplayer and Zombies deep dives, with the October beta giving players hands-on time with the evolved Omni-movement system and new maps.
Ready for Launch
Like almost everyone else who even dabbles in first-person shooters, I’ll take some shots with Black Ops 7. The campaign has me intrigued for sure and we’ll see just how innovative the multiplayer modes are and if they truly break ground.
