Fans commit ultimate sin after Oasis gig

There were “incredible scenes” after iconic rock band Oasis’ second Melbourne show over the weekend, as fans leaving the stadium took to the streets for an impromptu celebration.
But their choice of song to keep the party atmosphere going has raised some eyebrows as the footage circulates online: Blur’s 1997 hit single Song 2.
At first glance that might seem like a logical choice – both Oasis and Blue are 90s Britpop legends – but fans of either band will know they have a fierce rivalry that’s spanned decades.
Their feud kicked off in 1995, after Oasis scored their first number one hit. Blur’s lead singer Damon Albarn later told NME that he’d attended the band’s party to celebrate the milestone, only to have Oasis star Liam Gallagher gloat in his face about getting a number one first.
So began a public war of words that’s simmered for years, as the two bands battled it out for the title of Britpop’s biggest band. Albarn later described Oasis as “like the bullies I had to put up with at school.”
Which makes the sight of hordes of Aussie Oasis fans rocking out to a Blur song so controversial.
As one South American fan quipped under a tweet showing the “incredible scenes” of the impromptu street party: “@liamgallagher we would never do this to you in Argentina.”
“I’d do this just to piss off oasis fans,” another claimed.
Another Oasis fan on social media claimed that he and his friends were stuck in the crowd, and were “hating” the Blur love-in.
Another Oasis faithful dubbed the revellers “proper wankers,” with one Britpop aficionado declaring: “It is illegal to be fans of both. Lock them up.”
Still, it’s all good clean fun compared to the potentially dangerous antics that marred Oasis’ first Melbourne show on Friday night, when two flares were launched into the packed crowd at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium during the final song of the sold-out show.
“To the massive C**T who launched that flare into the crowd last night at the gig in Melbourne you are 1 seriously f**ked up individual and you will get yours trust me,” Liam Gallagher later fumed on social media.
Oasis’ Australian tour continues with their final Melbourne show tonight before two shows in Sydney on Friday and Saturday nights.
