Calgary’s Bridgette Bar damaged in overnight fire

A popular restaurant in Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood was damaged in a fire overnight, the city’s fire department says.
Bridgette Bar on 10 Avenue SW was left charred by the blaze that started around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Calgary Fire Department (CFD) public information officer Alex Kwan tells 660 NewsRadio that when crews arrived, they found visible flames and smoke coming from the outside back deck of the building that was spreading along the perimeter.
Firefighters were able to control the flames with hoses, he adds.
Crew members also found a locked storage area under the deck and broke the lock to get inside and make sure the fire was fully out and there was no damage.
Kwan explains the damage was limited to a washroom and a private dining room at the back of the building. There was no significant structural damage.
No one was inside at the time of the fire.
One firefighter was minorly injured while breaking the lock and was given first aid at the scene.
ATCO and Enmax were also on scene to shut off utilities to the building.
A total of 11 fire trucks and 32 firefighters attended the scene, including the fire investigator.
Kwan confirmed the blaze started on the back deck, though information about a cause was not available.
CFD will continue to investigate the incident.
