Raheem Morris comments on Falcons kicker Parker Romo’s job status

Romo missed a potential game-tying extra point in Sunday’s 24-23 loss.

The Atlanta Falcons have lacked consistency from week to week, and that has left the team with very little margin for error. This was especially true in Sunday’s 24-23 loss to the New England Patriots. The Falcons missed an extra point that would have tied the game up at 24 in the fourth quarter.

Kicker Parker Romo missed the attempt against his former team, and in doing so, gave the momentum back to New England following Michael Penix Jr.’s third touchdown pass of the game. Romo has been mostly good since replacing Younghoe Koo, but Sunday’s miss was low point.

The 28-year-old has converted on 11 of 14 field goals attempts and 12 of 13 extra points attempts for the Falcons this season. Head coach Raheem Morris was asked if Romo would keep his job this week and said the team would continue to bring in kickers to compete.

“Obviously, we’ve got to look at that and we’ve started that process already,” said Morris. “We’ve worked out a bunch of different people so we’ll be able to bring people in and we’ll figure out what it’s going to be this week. At the end of the day, you’ve got to make that kick.”

Atlanta previously worked out kickers Zane Gonzalez, Michael Badgley and Ben Sauls before signing Romo in Week 2. The Falcons also have kicker Lenny Krieg still on the practice squad. Perhaps, Krieg, a native of Germany, will get to make his NFL debut in Sunday’s International Series game in Berlin.

“We’ve got to get that fixed, and it has to be fixed now,” Morris concluded. “It has to be fixed right now.”
