New York Times Warning About Trump’s Threats Goes Viral as Promises Come True

In a striking echo of its past warnings, The New York Times resurfaced a front-page headline from last October, which ominously outlined potential actions that former President Donald Trump might take if reelected. The piece, featured in the Sunday Opinion section, urged readers to believe the then-presidential nominee’s bold and potentially dangerous promises. The headline proclaimed in all-capital letters: “DONALD TRUMP SAYS HE WILL PROSECUTE HIS ENEMIES ORDER MASS DEPORTATIONS USE SOLDIERS AGAINST CITIZENS PLAY POLITICS WITH DISASTERS ABANDON ALLIES.”
The warning has gained renewed attention after Victor Shi, a spokesperson for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, shared a photo of the cover on social media platform X. His post quickly went viral, amassing 87,000 likes and 1.5 million views. In a follow-up comment, Shi expressed disbelief at how accurately the predictions had materialized, noting that “they move fast. They break things. They have no regard for history or norms or laws.” He encouraged followers to remain vigilant and united against the unfolding scenario.
Since taking office for a second time, Trump has seemingly enacted many of the controversial initiatives foreseen by The New York Times. Within just a week of his inauguration, he initiated mass deportations, creating what critics have described as medieval detention centers. Reports indicate that immigration agents, equipped with masks, have forcibly removed individuals from the streets, while Trump has defied court orders by transporting migrants to distant prisons in South America. Additionally, he has deployed military personnel to restore order in what he termed “bedlam” in several major cities.
In terms of politicizing disasters, Trump used the severity of California’s wildfires as a stage to criticize Democratic leadership, demonstrating a strategic approach to crises for political gain. Moreover, his introduction of steep tariffs in April has raised concerns over international trade relationships, causing turmoil in global markets and sparking fears of a potential recession.

The New York Times had also hinted at the possibility of political arrests in their warning. In a notable instance, former FBI Director James Comey, previously involved in investigations of Trump’s 2016 campaign, faced indictment on charges of making false statements and obstruction of justice.
In his advocacy for collective action against these developments, Shi stressed the importance of continuous alertness and alarm-sounding in the face of what many perceive as a rapidly deteriorating political landscape. Through social media engagement, he aimed to cultivate a sense of community and resilience among supporters and concerned citizens.
